I just got back from one of the most incredible trips I have ever taken in my life. See Austria has been one of my lifes goals ever since I found out that both of my Grandparents on my Father’s side came over to America from Austria back in the 50’s. I can’t even begin to tell you all the amazing sites that I saw, but I can tell you that renting a car can make the difference between an OK trip and an AMAZING trip that you will never forget for the rest of your life!
Getting a car rental is Austria is a lot easier than you might think as well with a little bit of planning. If you have the time before you make the trip I would definitely recommend getting an International Driver’s License before you go. I have AAA and they really facilitated the process of getting the driver’s license before I made the trip. Not only could I drive, but whenever I had to flash some ID to the airport of city officials, I totally used my International Driver’s License because they see that as just as valid a peice of identification as a passport.
Car rentals in Austia are also just as easy as getting a rental car here in America since there are lots of the same car rental agencies in Austria as there are over here. I would personally recomment the SIXT car rental agency if you do decide to rent a car. They gave me an adorable little VW, which was tons of fun to drive. I was able to see so much more than I ever would have if I relied on public transportation, so if you go to Austria you should really rent one because it will make the trip so much more enjoyable!
